Q: On a one week cruise, we understand that there is a captains gala evening. we don't mind dressing up at all, but do the gentlemen wear DJ's or suits? How formal are the MSC 'formal' nights?

Was on the Rhapsody in June - great little cruise but definitely not as formal as their larger ships. I took my DJ but I would have looked like one of the wine waiters had I worn it. Therefore the most formal it got was lounge suits and ties - having said that, it was by no means shoddy. We really enjoyed the atmosphere on the Rhapsody and we do enjoy 'dressing for dinner' and formal restaurants

There will normally be a large contingent of Italian & German on MSC in the Med. Most do wear smart suits with less emphasis on DJ's but little or no evidence of the Baseball Cap Brigade (Thank God). Most Brits have been in DJ on the 2 MSC's I've done.Regards
