My wife and i travelled to Egypt in January 2008 for a Nile cruise/stay.
We flew from Glasgow to Gatwick (over night stay) to Luxor. Good flight and times.
Arrived on board the MS Orchid which is part of the First Choice fleet on a 7 day All Inclusive basis just after lunchtime. First impressions were very good all round, spacious, clean and friendly staff. The cabins were not too bad, basic, smallish but clean. Considering there is only 120 passengers on board you are not cramped..
One restaurant on ship, buffet style , not a vast choice of food, but you will not starve.
The entertainment was not the best we've had, very Butlins like, enjoyable though. there were  games nights, Egyptian theme nights, belly dancers, no sing songs or karaoke.
There is not much  activities  on board the Orchid, she has one small pool with a Jacuzzi, table tennis, tiny gym with a massage room.
Remembering this type of cruise is more of a relaxing venture the people you are cruising with are mostly 35-60 age group (not for children) Don't let this put you off, you can spend a lot of time with your fellow cruisers which makes this holiday a very personal and pleasant experience.
There are  Egyptologists  travelling on the ship which makes the trips very good and fascinating, as you have your own guide with you the whole time. we travelled south from Luxor to Aswan, visiting the various temples and ruins along the way. The trips can be expensive but worth every penny, the sights you see on the Nile and ashore are breath taking.
We didn't know what to expect on this cruise as it was different from the "usual" we have done. It was fantastic. What a relaxing 7 days sailing down one of the most famous rivers in history and the sights to match, quite enchanting, this is a once in a life time adventure.
We plan to do this again in the future.
On the down side of this cruise, if you follow the cleanliness guidelines, like the continuous washing your hands and watching what you eat/drink etc you will have a brilliant time.
